The Discovery
Sneezing, headaches, eye and nose irritation are just a few of the symptoms founder, Malbee Sirjoo experienced whenever he entered his home 12 years ago. It was very strange, especially since he didn’t experience those symptoms when he was outside. The only relief? Opening all the windows in the house, day or night, summer or winter.
In the winter months, whenever it was time to ‘clear the air’, he would open all the upper level windows and take his family out for an hour. Many times, he would return to a freezing cold home and windows that were frozen in place from the mixture of the condensation on the windows and the cold, winter air. He figured there had to be a better solution. The heating costs alone were becoming a high price to pay just to have clean air to breathe. Not to mention, the security risk he took each time he opened the windows open and left the house.
Malbee soon realized that if he opened a few of the windows slightly to allow a small amount of air to pass through, he could leave them open for longer periods of time, allow the air to circulate, reduce his symptoms and not feel a temperature change in the room. This worked well for when they were home, but what about when they were at work or on vacation?
The Solution
The concept was simple, a ventilation system, something that allowed the outside air to flow slowly, but continuously into his home and allowed the polluted air within the home to escape. This solution would need to have an adjustable air flow, would be able to seal airtight if required and wouldn’t compromise the home’s security if left open while the homeowner was away. It also needed to be cost-effective, not cost an ‘arm-and-a-leg’ to operate or cause heating and cooling bills to skyrocket.
The Fresh Air Trickle Vent was born. It wasn’t long after it’s development and installation that many other benefits were discovered as well. Musty smelling basements started to smell fresher, bathroom fog and condensation would reduce or virtually disappear when used in conjunction with the bathroom fan, and even cottages would keep their air circulating while they were closed for the winter.
The Concept: Create a healthier indoor air environment naturally.
